I saw dresses similar to these on Instagram, but they cost an insane amount of money and anyway they weren't available in double-digit sizes. I was scrolling through ELOQUII and there is a similar dress, much lower in price, and available in a broad range of sizes. ELOQUII is constantly adding to their selection and they do such a good job at translating popular fashion trends in a way that is flattering, wearable, not cheap but not overpriced.
This is not a dress for a wallflower. The bold color, the fringe and tassels, the stiffer fabric… it's a lot of dress. It also garners a lot of comments and compliments. But this summer it has been a favorite. Many Fridays like this one, I wear it when working from home. While the fabric is stiffer, it breathes nicely, The dress has super deep pockets so I can throw everything in them to run to get a coffee or pick Emerson up from school. I shared it on Instagram last week after getting an inced coffee from our neighborhood cafe.
And this is a total real Friday look, Day 3 hair and all. Not only is my hair so beyond that it can only be worn in a messy updo (with plenty of Living Proof dry shampoo), it was in need of a color touchup. I'm writing this Sunday evening after giving my color a refresher, next post I'll be back to my favorite cool brown color. No more auburn tips from the pool! I was too late in trying to get an appointment with my stylist before my trip so I got a box of Natural Instincts; Clairol is the only haircolor I trust when I color at home.
It's a surprisingly versatile dress. Switch out the self belt for a vintage brown leather one. This winter wear with a fitted black turtleneck and black knee-high boots. This fall, wear with ankle booties. I've worn it with tan sandals, but like how the gold ones give it a bit of a dressier feel without making the look overdone or complicated. This summer I wore it over my bathing suit a couple times when I wanted to look pulled together but wasn't ready to change and get properly dressed. While ELOQUII shows the dress with the neckline tied closed, I find it more flattering on me with it open.

I was at CVS near work buying a birthday card for a coworker and it was the week before Bonnaroo so I was roaming, seeing if I could find any beauty product that may make my trip more terrific. Almay products were on some deal – buy one get one 50% off or something. I…
Today is more like my Friday because I will be on a plane tomorrow to Miami to catch a weekend cruise to the Bahamas! Yee-haw! I will not be posting again until Tuesday at the earliest, and my goal is to photograph my looks while on my trip. Anyway, back to today’s outfit. Black v-neck…

Today is an Ann Taylor kid of day… The dress is a black matte jersey number I picked up at Ann Taylor last Spring. It’s a perfect guest at a wedding dress. The matte jersey can be dressed up or down, it’s a urplice neckline, seamed waist, a bit of gathers at the waist which…

Wow! In that almost profile picture without the sunglasses, you look like a renaissance painting! Say kudos to Karl for me. Beautiful, beautiful image.
I hope you don’t get offended about my comment. I think your dress has a Russian vibe about it. When I looked up Russian folk dresses I saw why. You were talking about embroidered boots recently. I think a pair of those would do well with that dress. Do you think that would be too costumey for your taste?
Because I’m so into Halloween, I would buy the real Russian felt embroidered boots, the fancy headdress that goes with the outfit, convince my partner to wear a Russian man’s shirt and boots, and maybe even learn a Russian folk dance or 2.
OK, so that’s my fantasy and would be too expensive for me to pull off but I like the picture I see in my imagination.
Not offended at all! As for boots, I’d likely go with a simple black or brown leather to let the pattern of the dress shine (though I do love the embroidered boot trend!).
The dress is really cute, it’s unusual maybe even goes a little bit on a hippie side and i love it!
