With the government shutdown, the office has been very quiet, my inbox has been slow to fill, and it's hard to stay inspired. While I still have some billable work to get me through this week, I had to furlough half my team and the rest of us remaining are quiet and melancholy and fearing this continuing into next week. With no chance of client visits, the office wardrobe has gotten more relaxed. Lots of jeans, lots of comfy shoes. I put this outfit together this morning and Karl said, “Oh you're wearing your SOP outfit.” I guess this really is my Standard Operating Procedure – blazer, v-neck tee, jeans, silver jewelery and pointed-toe pumps. Can't get more SOP Allie than that!

As for the hair… yep a bit of a change!  A few of you noticed the cut and highlights in yesterday's post, but today the curls are in full effect.  Stay tuned, there will be a post tomorrow all about it!

Monday I attended the Digital East conference in Tysons Corner, Virginia. A very long but inspiring day learning about digital and social media. Dress code was business/business casual. This could mean anything from power suits to jeans. I don’t currently own a suit and had no desire to wear one – my plan was to…

Hi all, writing to you from my new laptop. The other one I have had for almost three years and even the IT guys have decided it was possessed and had to be replaced and stop trying to fix it’s weirdness. New laptop means a busy day – same load of work, but no cookies,…

  1. You look positively sassy. If my hair would curl like yours (it waves, but weirdly), I would stop getting it straightened. Going to copy your outfit today (adjusting for age, of course).

  2. Love, love, love the hair! It’s a lot like mine so it’s fun to see someone else wear it like this. I’m curious about what products you are using on it right now. I also love the whole look. Perfect SOP outfit!

  3. Sorry to hear about the slowness at work, I hope the government gets their act together so things can get back to normal. I really love you hair curly – so pretty! And you SOP is flattering on you!

  4. Hopefully this craziness will stop soon. I love the new hair. Obviously I don’t know you in real life, but it seems to match your free-spirited personality. You always look great though.

  5. Cute! TOtally feel you on the anxiety about furloughs. Keep up hope, though – if the news is right it looks they are about to reach a deal! Maybe things will start to swing back to normal next week… until, of course, we repeat this whole thing again in January. Sigh.

  6. I LOVE your curls! More gals should let their waves wave — it really suits you. And can I just say that your SOP outfit is pretty damn put together? I’m sorry to say that mine is probably one of my husband’s high school Cure t-shirts, denim flares and chucks! That’s what my office gets for having no dress code — me showing up wearing one notch up from pajamas.
