Another gorgeous day in our Nation’s Capital! Wearing short sleeves and almost didn’t need a coat! Black tape-yarn empire-waist sweater tee from Old Navy, Curvy denim trousers from Gap (new from holiday gift card), black city boots from Impo, two silver necklaces from H&M (one knotted at back of neck to adjust length), silver hoops…
Fall is here and I’m feeling it in my heart and my closet. I want to wear all the autumnal shades, put on wool and felt hats and wrap up in scarves and coats. And Comfort sent me their The Cambridge Tie Dress in terracotta and the color is better than sipping on a pumpkin…
Summer is my favorite time of year. I don’t love sweating, but I like it more than shivering. I like it more than slipping on black ice. And now that I have curly hair, I like how my hair likes summer. I love the pool, I love the ocean, I love friends with boats and…

Black stretchy v-neck sweater from Banana Republic. Black and ivory print knit circle skirt from Rachel Palley, black tights from Target (I kept trying to get my legs and feet in pics but since I have to open the door to reduce glare, I couldn’t get them), black round toe high-heel pumps from Jessica Simpson….
Cute outfit! Love the coat! I recently discovered all the great plus sizes at Macy’s, didn’t know they even had Tommy (& City Chic). In fact, I own those jeans in black and in medium wash denim.
Great minds! 🙂 Yes, I have been sleeping on Macy’s… no more!
I’ve loved your blog for years and have bought several of my favorite items within minutes of seeing them on the blog even though we are different sizes/shapes/styles (EVA birkenstocks, smart wool invisible socks, resusable cotton rounds & other things I’m not remembering right now.) The quality of the posts & photos since you’ve gone full time is so much higher — and I didn’t think the blog could get better. I hope you’re feeling really good about the decision.
Oh wow thank you so much Jennifer! I shared your comment with Karl, it’s awesome how we can really work together on these shoots to best reflect my style, his talent, and the clothes!
Such a smart and sophisticated look, Alison!!!
I absolutely adore that you added some print mixing with the scarf!!

Thanks Jodie!
Beautiful coat! And as a longtime reader, excited to hear you are focusing on the blog full-time. I really hope to see a more frequent cadence of articles dedicated to reader questions, wardrobe capsules, how to wear X trend, what to wear, etc.
Yes! Right now I am trying to dial in this new normal but that is definitely on the list for 2018! 🙂
Flattering with a capital F!!!!!!
Thanks so much Melissa!
Alison,
The entire outfit is lovely but I’m particularly fascinated by the shoes. Can you tell me a bit more about them?
I have aspirations of some day finding comfortable heels that will fit my rather wide rectangular “Fred Flinstone”-shaped feet.
Cute on how many gals live with you! I’m probably closer to this one than others…but I would of never thought of the bandana. This is why I need you to nudge me into your world a bit!

That is the very reason I too love blogs – they have me see things slightly differently and get new ideas! Two heads are always better than one, even if one of the heads is virtual!
