What I Wore: Lounging Around

Even though I no longer have a long commute and an early office start time I'm still waking up at 5:30. I slide into my slippers and quietly go downstairs while the rest of the family is still asleep. This is my time. I do a few sun salutations, brew coffee, do my morning pages and figure out my schedule for the day. I spend this time in loungewear, soft warm pieces that make me feel great and look great enough that I'm not embarrassed to open the door to a neighbor or the UPS person. My absolute favorite loungewear is this set from Soft Surroundings (link to top, link to pants). Soft Surroundings rates the softness level of their collection and the Softy collection gets a 3, the highest score. It is so incredibly soft, I catch myself petting my arm or leg while watching TV or waiting for the teakettle to boil. The Softy collection comes in Misses, Petites, Talls, and Women sizes and there are three colors to choose from. While it's tempting to size up in loungewear, I recommend purchasing your regular clothing size for a more flattering fit. This fabric is so soft and stretchy that it won't be uncomfortable, I promise.
The slippers are ridiculously soft too, with a subtle metallic sheen to the exterior and a gripper sole so I feel secure if I have to dash out to the mailbox. They only have odd sizes; I am a size 8 and went with 7 and they're a bit small. If unsure, I recommend you size up. The sheepskin lining will fill any extra space to keep your feet in place and your toes snug as a bug in a rug.
We're heading into a very busy season with families, meals, parties, presents, and more. Don't forget to take care of yourself so you can care for others, but also enjoy all the activities. Wake a bit earlier so you have some quiet time to slowly get your day started. Dress in comfortable pieces that look and feel great, stay hydrated (it floors me how better my mood is when I drink plenty of water), and be kind to yourself. I usually wear this type of loungewear at home. There is no problem with this outfit, It is comfortable and stylish too. I also love to wear a pajama set or other sleepwear which all comfortable to me.
Love it! Would love to see more loungewear posts – I work part time and spend the rest of my day trying to be as cozy as possible.

I like the styling. The half tuck looks smart and not sloppy, but it skims over various rolls and lumps that a full tuck reveals. My feeling is that as long as you’ve got a bra on and you can’t see through your jammies they’re decent for opening the door.
Yep, I think the bra makes or breaks it whether I will open the door!
LOL on the books. The American Library Association FB page regularly has a post about “which patron was looking for a book with a blue cover today?” They often do displays with just books on one color for humor/illustrative purposes.

I love the look and am going to finally seek out some quality loungewear afte seeing your post. One question: what products do you use in your hair?
I need to write a post on this, so many people are asking! I leave my conditioner in my hair, scrunch and air dry or use a hood/sit under dryer. When dry, I may use Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray for volume and to have the hair less silky/flat. Second day, I brush out my curls and then spritz them with a water bottle that has a healthy squirt of conditioner in it. Scrunch and air dry. Then maybe more Oribe. Third day I usually need dry shampoo at the roots and will hit various pieces with a curling iron for separation. If it rains or I sweat, even better. I’m concerned how my hair will do with the cold dry winter air.

I think I would 100% end up just wearing the shirt as a soft winter shirt with jeans and the pants by themselves as PJ pants, because I’m not sure I could resist trying to fit such a soft warm shirt into my daytime clothing routine!
Also, those books arranged by color are KILLING ME, it’s my number one pet peeve!
LOL it’s driving people crazy on Facebook too. Each Labor Day our elementary school has a book sale – people donate books, they sell them, donate what is leftover. It’s an amazing fundraiser. I went through our books and donated a TON of them. And after as I was cleaning up the bookcase I was realizing I look for books by color. Where is that book, I know it’s gold leaf writing on a black linen cover, it’s that orange-red color, it’s short and the spine is all bent so you can barely read the grey font on the white cover. And this room is pretty busy with lots of art, Em’s toys, the couch and printed rug so I reorganized by color and am happy to realize that I can actually find books more easily! In our dining room our books are still organized by category and same with the office and bedroom. But those are more research-y or reference books and these are more novels and pieces I don’t look for as regularly but can’t imagine not owning and picking up every once in a while. 🙂
I went and looked and hoo boy, yeah, apparently a LOT of us inwardly winced at the books-by-color bookshelves! I feel bad that I inadvertently joined in a pile-on! If it works for you, it works! But I am gonna flinch a little every time I see it, haha

It’s harder to find books. If you have them organized by category, and then if you feel inclined, by author last name, it’s easy to quickly find what you’re looking for. Just like a library or book store, it’s set up that way for quick find and reference. I get it, my vinyl is organized that way, my cookbooks and gardening books are that way (when I tidy things up). The more books the more you need organization. A lso these days you can buy books by the foot by color. Designers will buy books because they’re green or blue not caring the topic. That really bothers me.
Those PJs look so comfy and cute on you! Haha I may be the odd one out but I would totally run to the grocery store in them and not give a second’s thought to what people think. 🙂

I’m glad you shared this. My go to for PJs, which end up being my loungewear, is Target. They work, but don’t last. With holidays coming, I can see getting caught in my PJs more often as I try to gwt the house ready… I’m totally looking into these!
I always felt loungewear didn’t “deserve” to have money spent on it since rarely does anyone other than my immediate family see it. But when it lasts longer and makes me feel better… it’s worth the money!
That outfit looks comfortable but I don’t think I would open the front door wearing that as they look like pajamas. I think I would feel uncomfortable if a neighbor saw me wearing that (and my neighbor would probably feel uncomfortable too).
I ended up having friends come over unannounced while I was wearing this set and they thought it was cashmere. It surely looks like loungewear and not streetwear, I think it’s personal comfort level when it comes to loungewear 🙂
Oh gosh – if I chose what I’m wearing around the house based on what the neighbors might think if they knock on the door I’d never answer the door. I figure if you come over unannounced you get what you get (within reason!). These look more loungy to me – only the slippers give them a more pj feel. Then again I’ve answered the door in flannel pj bottoms so may not be a great reference here. 😀
